The desk its going in isn't enormous so any suggestions for speakers to add (not fancy expensive ones)

Does it have optical output or just standard audio + hdmi?

You can get a reasonably cheap sound bar and sub from Tesco or somewhere like that but it's worth checking which connections you have. Optical will give you the best sound but will need a more expensive cable.

PC speakers should be fine, going into a headphone jack or soundcard from the computer will then be your choice. If you're watching tv through your computer the latter will be fine.

Yes I'm sure it will, but if you connect the sound to the virgin box, you won't get sound using the pc only

Soundbar and sub will have the kids crapping their beds and the neighbours thinking WW3 has started ! Sounds perfick ! ;)

A decent set of full-range PC powered speakers would be grand too (Bose do some nice little jobs, if a bit pricey).

Have a nose round your local Richer Sounds - I've got a pair of weeny Cambridge Audio mid/tweeters and a 10"x8"x8" sub that sound awesome for my iPod deck

I can heartedly recommend Creative Gigaworks T20 speakers.   About fifty quid new, although there are some bargains to be had on eBay.

My Dad uses them for monitors in his little home studio - decent sound and pack a bit of a punch for something so small.
