Different thing, but Grainger Games' staff know their stuff too.
You can get knowledgeable and useless staff in any sphere really. I take the view that if I know what I want, there's no point the assistant knowing more than me; as long as they're pleasant I can just buy my thingydoodad and be on my merry way. If they don't know what they're on about and I do need advice, there's always another shop.
You will get some enthusiasts who will work in a particular job well below their earning ability for the love of it or the lifestyle, but they are the exception and not the rule.
To expect anything else in a market driven world where service jobs have low wages and even lower public respect is a bit naive.
B+Q are often quite good at employing older tradesmen who may have retired from plumbing say, but still want to work. Some of the knowledge base is very good, but it can be a bit hit and miss.
Maybe music stores should employ retired rock stars!

Does the Midi specialist need a degree on Electronic Music Production, or does knowing a reasonable amount count as enough...
I'm sure we can all go to a shop and ask very specialised questions on topics and outsmart a minimum wage drone in our own fields, but does that make them fools or us smug?
