I've used it for a Adobe Premiere course. It was a really good course, but I just didn't get time to make more use of it. The only problem I've found is that I typically need to dip in and out of courses depending on what I'm doing, and the monthly payment is quite expensive to keep the tutorials on standby.

I think you can try it for a month for free. I'd give that a go and hammer some courses to see how much value you can get from it.

I far preferred the Lynda course to searching YouTube though. I don't mind YouTube for specifics, but I find it too slow for comprehensive courses. The Lynda course I did was very focused, and you really had to pay attention or you would miss stuff.

We have it with work so students can use it, my observations

Firstly, you must be the type of person who can learn via videos.  The tutorials can be great, but if that isn't how you learn then there is no benefit at all.

There are no formal quals or recognition with it, no awards you can get (in most languages)

The people who do the tutorials range from excellent to ok. I've not had a bad one.

The voices can be annoying as feck.

Depending on what you want to learn, youtube is a lot cheaper but it is a minefield in regards to quality.

Some tutorials don't teach any theory, they don't do any background info.  If you are a beginner, you run a real risk of missing some verrrry important theory.  For example, they will tell you how to program a simple program, but not reference the class/variables/methods etc... (however some do)

It's a great tool to be fair, there are many good points.  The supporting files/industry tutorials/ the rewind 10 seconds button is a god send.

Have you looked at Udemy? - courses are on offer most of the the time at £10 each.
Am doing two right now - both are good, one is exceptional - but check course reviews first.
I first heard about Udemy here!

  • I've used udemy, some good stuff, looks like some shite too. I went for a coding course and a conversational Spanish course. I'd love to learn another language, computer or human.

They're both good. The conversational Spanish is basic, but that's the point - I'm hoping to get a more comprehensive course after.
