    Isn't this essentially what caused the world's second worst nuclear disaster? The backup generators at Fukushima survived the tsunami and kicked in, but the switchgear which connected them to the power station was under a few feet of salt water so the breakers tripped - because no-one had actually bothered to do a full-scale test run and hence didn't know that the switches were vulnerable...

    Boom. Several thousand square km of Japan becomes unihabitable for a couple of hundred years.
