it is - I prefer this format it is quickfire cricket and the tournament lasts 2 weeks.

I remember the 2007 WC in the Caribbean it lasted 5-6 weeks I think. Very tedious.

Does seem bit of a damp squid though with the weather, but it cant be helped.

I was at Edgbaston today the atmosphere was electric. I was nervous at 35-3 and an England team of 3+ years aho would have crumbled.

I would definitely bring in Bairstow for the semi final. Straight swap for Roy to open the batting.

Great throw to by the Aussies to remove Morgan in the running mix up. A rare lapse by Morgan there, he was being cautious but didn't shout "Noooooo!"

A lovely innings by Stokes, solid bowling by Rashid and terrific catch by Roy, but we need him firing with the bat, it's a risk to keep playing him.

I sense it won't be plain sailing for England from here on in, the weight of history suggests that. England favourites to win with shortened odds of just over evens (2.4 on Betfair)

  • What a catch by Roy. That makes up for his batting (it doesn't)

    Thinking about that Roy catch:

If he'd been standing over the boundary and then jumped up, pushing the ball back over the boundary whilst in mid-air, would he have been able to make the catch or would being over the boundary in the first place make it a six?

As long as he is not in contact with the ground ( over the boundary ) and ball at the same time it wouldn't be a 6.

I was also at Edgbaston today. Mrs RSV spoiled me and junior to some great seats. Ruined by odious and obnoxious spectators.... In the row immediately behind us were a group of 'lads' who were actually proper liberal middle class Corbynistas. Now I have refrained from posting anywhere about politics in the last weeks but find it ironic that I find myself posting here while incandescent with rage that these self righteous wankers spoiled my family day out. As they got progressively well oiled, every other word was preceded by the f bomb. They expounded their theories on politics and why they were so right and everyone else was sooooo wrong. Their absolute disregard for the volume of their comments and poor language in front of my son and wife was disrespectful, rude and insensitive. Not only that there were 2 younger girls in the family next to us who were treated to comments such as 'Hmmmm that's a bit short of a length which is why I am not a porn star. My cost is so small.....' Etc etc. Au contraire, you were a massive cock. 3 rows back was a sole Aussie who joined in the 'banter' and rather than a gentle ribbing of his team, just shouted abuse: 'Starc you fucking wanker, bowl the fuckers out. You are a fucking disgrace.'....etc etc This was a family stand and while I accept language could get a bit fruity, they were so hammered, their insensitivity was astounding. Go And sit in the Hollies stand if you want to get that slaughtered but not in front of kids please. Not that I don't enjoy the banter. Banter usually involves a touch of wit and makes people laugh. Cricket has a rich history of characters, and fine lines. I am all for that. No one was laughing at these 'fans' and several folks had quiet words but by that time, the day was spoiled. Shame. Mind you, hope that wasn't you @wackojacko

@rsvmark what was the alcohol policy with family stands at Edgbaston? From games I've been to around the country, these stands are usually booze-free areas. If this wasn't the case, it'd be worth contacting someone at the ground to complain.

@Heartfeltdawn .......to be honest I don't know but I wouldn't like to say 'no alcohol' as a draconian rule. I know the Hollies stand is 18+ and gets a bit fruity but what annoys me is their selfish and ignorant attitude. It's just the beer that brought it out in front of everyone!

I really only go to Test matches but very one I've been to in the last decade has had an alcohol free area referred to as the family zone. It's a good policy as even the childphobic Me recognises that most families don't want to sit next to even well behaved pissheads. If there were drunk arses in the wrong area, I'm surprised security didn't bin them.

Better off getting the bad performance out of the system in a group game like Pakistan did.

Well, I wasn't expecting us to play that poorly after the run of games so far.

On the other hand, it wouldn't be England if we didn't.

Yes sorry @rsvmark that were me an me pals yobbing it up in the family stand.

im joking of course I was in the hollies stand, being a yob haha.

in accordance with that others have said here, last time I went to edgbaston the family stand was an alcohol free zone.

Its a a sad state of affairs some stadiums these days. I took my lad to St Mary's a couple of years ago to watch Southampton v Man Utd and the language was absolutely appalling. Some funny...but not a place for kids/ haven't been since.

Yes, looking forward to some test cricket. ODIs are all very well but they must be in moderation.

Agreed, T20 & ODIs are like support acts to real cricket; the Test Match.
