    His last, I think - at least, his last "proper" album.  Lyrically and musically brilliant, but never got the same recognition as Boots & Panties or DiY

    Just about anything from the 70s by this guy.  He should have been huge, but seems to have got completely screwed by mismanagement.

    Ive just got that eels album, never heard of them before they were recommended by a friend. I recognised a recent single by them. They look decent on youtube so i will delve a little deeper!
    @jayjo - I started with Beautiful Freak whenever that came out (10+ years ago), and that's still my favourite Eels album.
    Cheers mate i recognise a couple of tracks on that album so will give it a go!

    Everyone bangs on about Bonded by Blood, but I prefer this one:

    <Force of Habit>

    @Bucket, that is a great album, but I think their best is Tempo of the Damned. Some of Zetro's best stuff.

  • Deep Purple come taste the band. Blackmore, Gillan and Glover has gone, yet songwriting had improved, range of songs was far better and songs were just great songs rather than mainly jams with some words thrown in.

    This ^. Great album, probably due to DP having hit their peak around 3 years earlier and the absence of Ritchie Blackmore meant this album was going to struggle to be accepted by DP's fanbase. I prefer it far more than the 2 prior albums, Burn & Stormbringer. It would have been interesting to see where Tommy Bolin could have taken DP had he gotten himself sorted out. Maybe, as Jon Lord stated in interviews they shouldn't have credited the album to Purple.

    While we're on the subject of Purple, I've always had a soft spot for their Concerto For Group & Orchestra album. An interesting experiment of the time, but much derided over the years by critics and rock fans alike. It's only in the last 10 years or so that it's been given any sort of critical reappraisal. Maybe falls down when compared to the heavier stuff which was to follow soon after.

  • Fantomas - Directors Cut. A genuinely brilliant "supergroup" playing all your favourite film soundtrack songs mentally.

    Somewhat predictably, I'm going to go with Waiting For The Punchline by Extreme. It's not just underrated; very few people even know it exists.

    It's a much more raw-sounding, almost classic rock album than their previous 3 offerings - after the 80s-based rock of Pornograffiti and the prog self-indulgence of III Sides, I actually thought they'd found "their" sound with this one. There are some low points on there, but the good songs really make up for it. It's like there's more of a focus on the songs than Nuno's talent on the guitar, and it really works for me.
    Extreme themselves are underrated, especially Nuno Bettencourt's guitar skills... the song "midnight express" from that very same album is a good example of Bettencourt's playing ability and creativity.

    Their composition work for "Everything under the sun" (including the 3 parts) is my favourite.
