Something to think about when converting a combo to a head

A customer brought me a Mesa Nomad 55, which had been professionally converted to a head, but since it had been done the reverb was very noisy. I have come across this before, so was pretty sure of the problem. The orientation of the reverb in the bottom of a combo is not such an issue but when mounted directly under or above the chassis, make sure the reverb output transducer is the opposite end to the power transformer, otherwise, the inductive pickup creates a lot of 50Hz mains hum, which was the case here. I had to change the interconnection cables as well due to the length. Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Ha! I installed a reverb in an Artisan A100 head. Never gave that problem a moment's thought DJH! Fortunately blind luck was on my side and I got it the right way around!

    It's not a problem until it's a problem.
