    Hi,

I've just picked up a lake placid blue American special tele.

Having owned various levels of telecaster over the years from standards up to custom shop models this certainly doesn't feel an inferior product.

Fit and finish are spot on and the thing looks and sounds stunning.

If a hard case isn't a must and you want a brand new guitar (some people do!) I can see a lot of sense in going for the special, especially given the current prices of the professional series.

One caveat would be the jumbo frets, I prefer them but it would be better to try one first to make sure they suit you.

    Cheers,

    Dan
I had the Olympic white and maple version of this a couple of years ago.
I LOVED those Jumbo Frets and I genuinely miss that guitar.

    HNGD.

This is what I've got my eye on for my next. The American Special seems like the perfect Strat for me and that's the colour scheme for me...

    I love them.
I'd take an American Special Over the old model Std any day. I owned both and the Special was just much better but a LOT of people will disagree.
They say the hardware is cheap? It's an American 6 point tremolo and USA tuners, cheap how exactly?
They Don't like Texas Special pickups. I loved them, each to their own.
Jumbo frets. Well, I guess that's taste as well but I would have all my guitars with Jumbo Frets..........Oh wait, I think they all are!
    lol.
It's ALL down to taste and some prefer the STD but I sold the STD and kept the Special for a lot longer.
I've got the new 'Pro' Strat now and whilst I wouldn't swap that for a Special, I would certainly shell out for the new HSS Special If I had that money spare.

They have the latest Olympic White American Special Strat, Black guard HSS with CBS Headstock and a Rosewood neck in our local music shop right now which I'd be all over with some spare money.

To clarify I had the Tele AND the Strat within the same year (2014) and they were both amazing guitars, maybe the Tele slightly better overall.

    Yes,....now I've sobered up a bit, you're right.

I could buy a decent guitar PLUS a Jaguar E-Type for the same money and still have enough left for a bag of chips on the way home.
    ;)
