The title pretty much explains it. Whats the best pedal in each category that you have used regardless of price?

Cheers!

    I like Analogman chorus pedals.

Currently got an EQD phaser which is good...not crazy but a lot more complex than a Phase 90 ;)

    Phase 45 & Ce-2

However, rock guys often prefer the 90 as its a stronger effect and there is TC chorus as an alternative for a more modern tone.

    Phaser - Boss PH-1R.
    Chorus - Roland JC-120.

    :)

OK... probably the Boss CH-1, although I'm not sure I've found the best one yet. (Currently have a CE-2.)

Eventide H9, a bit of a cop out I know, but it does sound the best for both of those sounds.

For a good, cheap, outside bet, see if you can find an ARIA Chorus.

I love the Phaser in my Ibanez multi, probably looking at a Maxon to get the same thing in pedal format.

MXR Microchorus. Dead simple to use.
Digitech Multichorus, a bit more complex, but an awesome chorus.
I haven't tried the bigger MXR chorus, but everyone I know whos' tried one (both of them) raved about it.
MXR Phase 90. My own preference is the script* logo model, followed by the block logo one, or best of both worlds the EVH P90.
*The reissue with the LED, not the original non-LED model.

I really like the MXR analog chorus (the small blue one) - the 2 band EQ is really useful for dialling in bright shimmery sounds or dark swampy ones.

Phaser-wise I got an MXR phase 90 script reissue - love it.

Skreddy Little Miss Sunshine lovely chewy sound in a cool coloured surf green pedal and then add a Maxon CS9 Stereo Chorus pro. This pedal has a great depth control for how much sound you want on your Chorus effect.

  • MXR Phase 95 - gives you Phase 90, Phase 45 and both script and block modes. All in a mini pedal - staggering. If you can find one, Phase 99 is extraordinary but offers more than most people want.

Jam Pedals Ripple is a great phaser. Chorus, I like the CE-2. I'd fancy an original EHX Small Clone too though.

Best I've used/use are the Maxon PH350 phaser and CS550 chorus. Both have an enormous range of sounds from a simple 3 knob config. Honourable mentions for Boss PH-1 phaser and DC-2 Chorus. The Maxons aren't to everyones taste, the chorus esp. has a hi-fi quality which is marmite for some, though I love it.

Dod 201 is the best phasor out there imp, it's two stage, sound a little bit more subtle, which I like. Slow speeds for a bit of movement, and fast speeds it does that faux leslie thing really well.

Chorus, I love the moog mini chorus, loads of sounds, but dialling it in can be a little awkward. Boss Waza chorus right up there too.

I've got one of those, it's quite noisy and there's a slight volume drop when you switch it on, but worse than that, it's a chorus pedal.

If you like either to have the option of being a bit OTT, the Mr Black Doublechorus and the Alexander La Calavera are both very good options.

    Best chorus: Ibanez Bi-Mode Chorus.
Best Phaser: Ibanez PT-9. It's very similar circuit-wise to the Boss PH-1r.
