@Basher I too had the original pickups rewound on this, twice in fact. Once by BareKnuckle who did a terrible job and made them sound even worse (if that's at all possible!), and the again by my friend Mark at Crash pickups. He did a much better job but ultimately the bobbin is too shallow when compared to a 'proper' P90 so you'll never get an acceptable tone from them. It's just a compromise. Even Jason Lollar and our own @TheGuitarWeasel have admitted defeat a few times I think.

The @Mojopickups set dropped straight in, and sound identical to the original set in my '67. They certainly have that top end clarity with a magic airy quality to them, so I couldn't have been happier. I went for the A5s.

At £140 for the set, it's a no brainer in my eyes. If one of the originals die in the '67, I'll have Marc rewind it without a doubt.
Thanks for taking the time to answer so comprehensively @RiftAmps.
Glad it wasn't just me that's found the rewind route unsatisfactory!
I'll add some Mojos to my shopping list for when the GAS fund recovers (have just bought a new guitar). I'm hoping to save a few quid by fitting them myself. Not something I'd usually attempt on a hollow body but as I don't want the original pickups I thought I could just snip the wires and use those to connect the new ones in. Not the most artisanal approach but definitely the cheapest!
    Thanks again.
