Sometimes it's nice to have options.  For me those options always include single pickups.  So the family of 4 has grown in to this:

I always think they look like a motorbike missing its front wheel - makes me think Why?

    I obviously don't get it.

What have you got against neck pickups?!

Honestly never miss the second pickup, the only thing I use the neck pickup for on my Les Paul's is to set the volume really low so I can have some "clean" at the flick of a switch.

My junior I just love, less to fiddle with and worry about just use tone and volume when needed.

Don't have anything against neck pickups.  Wouldn't mind an old 50s Musicmaster with single neck pickup

I find it's like amps.  I much prefer a single channel amp because otherwise the other option just feels like a compromise to me.  These days I find myself using the guitar controls a lot more to sculpt the output and tone and don't find I'm missing out just because I can't flick to another pickup.

Maybe one day I'll go back but for now I'm pretty content.

I have single H guards for both my strats. Volume control only - basically the fewer things to break or get in the way the better, and I can play my band's whole album with the bridge pickup on full volume (I use a volume pedal).

I do use neck pickups for fun though, haven't taken them out of my PRS/Gibson. I don't have any guitar that couldn't have a neck pickup. The great thing with Strats is you can change combinations without routing ever being visible.

But if you're building a motorbike a front wheel is kind of one of the main requirements in the design, unless you want a unicycle which is a different mode of transport altogether.

If you're using a motorbike analogy I see it more like this as a single pickup:

    Vs multiple pickups

Some folk also put Bigsbys on their guitars which would be kind of similar to fitting a spoiler on a motorbike

The Melody Maker looks cool in pelham blue but if I could borrow one, on a long term deal, it would be the cherry DC - Nice choice of guitars - most of my stock has to many pick ups for you!!!!
