Gibson's latest gimmick

What's Hot

An overdrive built into the back plate of the guitar that can be adjusted with a guitar pick.

A great design. If only I could use it by using my feet or something...

I am actually a Gibson fan boy! But this just feels like 2015 all over again...

Ah, 2015.  The year they finally got consistent finishing and setups sorted.

Sure, they messed it up by forcing unwanted options on ever guitar in the range.  But 2015's are still brilliant for at least 20% of guitarists. Those who are okay with the wider neck, like having alternative tunings at the touch of a button, and can ignore the logo and hologram.

the built on overdrive.  It's a nice idea but only really useful for the 1/100

I have a 2017 Classic. I changed the pickups & the plastics & it's a great guitar. But Gibsons problem is Henry J. He's got this thing about Steve Jobs. It's his wank fantasy. So they get these pointless ideas. The HP Les Paul might work, but if it's a shredder neck where are the jumbo frets?

Hard to ignore when youre concentrating mightily on soloing with eyes closed trying to overcome the tonal deficiencies of said logo and hologram  ;) its a real bugger. and it puts the girls off too when they come and say hi, but take one look at your guitar, do a double-take the walk off with a pained expression  :/

For older readers, this idea may feel like 1977 all over again. (The Artist series - RD, ES and LPC with knobs on!)

Gibson are way behind on this one, and with a poor imitation at that…

Late 70s/early 80s Kay/Univox 'Effector' with built-in fuzz, echo, tremolo, wah, and 'whirlwind', whatever that is… it even had a headphone jack.

I actually really love those - played one a while back and it was surprisingly playable

The effects would work well for the lo-fi/psych kinda thing I'm trying to do too

    Hmm

They were first in a way with the Epiphone EBSF with built in fuzz in 1963 (which may, some say, have pre-dated the standalone Maestro fuzz pedal by about, ooh, 20 minutes). I would kill for one...
