SCAMMER WARNING: Due to a spate of recent scam attempts (some successful) recently, if you're doing a deal in the classifieds, ONLY USE PAYPAL GOODS AND SERVICES UNLESS YOU KNOW THAT INDIVIDUAL PERSONALLY. It's really not worth saving a few quid.
SOLD now, to Macari's on Charing Cross Road, PX'd for an AV65 Jazzmaster ;-)
I bought this in about 1993, brand new, from Hank’s in Denmark Street. It was my first ‘real’ guitar and I spent a lot of time researching it (remember this was pre-Internet days just about; I had my first email address in 1993!). Acoustic Guitar magazine rated it the best in its class (which I guess would be “Not Terrifyingly Expensive Smaller-bodied Guitars from Highly-Regarded Makers”), but it seems to be extremely difficult to discover anything about it nowadays, as it is long vanished from Martin’s catalogue. The 000-16GT ([
https://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/16-series/000-16gt/]) lives on, but this rosewood model seems not to have.
I think the top is spruce and it has a lovely bright, clear but still warm sound which has even mellowed a little more with age. As you’d guess, best for fingerstyle though strumming is good too. It really is in astoundingly good condition (even I’m surprised!).
It’s got an after-market pickup in it, too, a Fishman, as I recall, as I wanted to get something of sufficient quality to go with the Martin.
Price: difficult to gauge, really, as there seem to be no comparables. I bought it in 1993 for about £775 (I recall that seeming a staggering amount back then) and the current GT retails at £1,625. So how about £900?
I am in central London and around most of the time. Tea, coffee, biscuits and friendly cats and dogs await you if you want to come and have a play.
