I don't have an unlimited budget to buy multiple guitar combinations that sound good together 

I chose the LP/Tele/P-Bass trio cos they work well with Vox/Fender and Marshall type amps to provide complementary textures. Also with a dirty/clean combination I find the Tele does a good job of filling in the empty spaces, especially when used as a rhythm guitar.

As a personal preference, I also prefer two-part guitar compositions.

I'm not saying other combinations don't work, I just happen to like this particular sound palette, and it took me a while to put it all together after waiting for the right individual pieces to come along
