Is there an Android app to measure distance walked?

I would like some way of finding out how far I walk when, say, I am in Dublin or Cork. One that uses GPS on my Android phone might be perfect. Thanks.

  • I use Runkeeper.  Tell it you're walking, enable GPS and you're away.

Endomondo has a walking mode. I use it for cycling but it'll measure and map anything.

  • Google Fit.   Integrates with plenty of other apps too.

Samsungs usually come armed with S health app which will count steps, measure distance etc.
For GPS + map tracking, as above: runkeeper, Strava, Endomondo.

  • It's worth saying that a phone battery doesn't last long on full gps tracking mode. If you're doing more than a couple of hours it's worth getting a basic GPS watch. Battery life on those can go past 15 hours on gps mode. I actually use a Garmin Forerunner 35 for walks and runs and a Garmin Edge 810 bike computer for rides. They both pair with my phone, upload immediately I finish an activity and are brilliant. Also means I have phone battery in an emergency.

I've used Endomondo in the past.  There was another one that I think was called Sports Tracker that I used as well.

GPS essentials is my favourite. It'll show your velocity and altitude and all sorts

Another Endomondo user here. Lists dozens of activities and gives possible outputs for each, simple things like walking, running, cycling, canoeing, rollerskating etc. with different modes in many of them.

Runkeeper and Strava but also Map My Ride/Map My Run. If you are a bit more serious then getting a GPS device means it can track your walk then upload to your phone/PC as the phones don't always have charge for a full days walking and using GPS. Also the phone can lose signal whereas the dedicated GPs devices are more suited to the job.
