Oh yeah ... when I buy this I'll be ditching my old laptop & PC ... so I'm thinking I will still want to have a DVDRW.

    Are they being phased out?
    Is that realistic?
They get used now less so a lot of manufacturers are starting to leave them off.  They can make the chassis' thinner and of course it saves money.

Still straightforward to get one for now.  If you don't use it much, you can get an external Blu Ray drive/ multi writer for £50.

I buy a lot of HP250 laptops for work, they are now on the G6 but one with the spec you are after costs roughly your budget, maybe worth a look.

    Thanks.
That HP G6 looks to have spec more or lesson line with the Thinkpad E570 which costs £60 more ...

will the thinkpad be 'better quality'?

or are they much of a muchness?

    same parts, same components etc

I had one of those in last week for a repair - needed a keyboard. Quite nice machine to work on. The thing with Dell is your always be able to get spare parts cheaply as they have a system where every part has it's own Dell part number and there are plenty of Dell service parts dealers. Their driver support is great to.

@Danny1969 Thanks. Given your earlier post in the thread I had tried to limit my earch to the Latitude, Elitebook and Thinkpad but I wasn't quite seeing what I wanted at the right price ... and I know Dell have a good rep so I'm glad you chipped in with that.
