Morning all.

This might sound like a stupid one, but humour me as it's a slow day at work.

I've got zebra 57 classics in my goldtop currently and I'm not sure if I like the zebra look, some days I love it, some days not so much.

Have any of you got photos of your goldtops with pickups that are all black or even all white?

I need something to help pass the day here and this is something I'm just interested in settling in my head. D

I like zebra in a goldtop, or zebra/reverse zebra combo.

A PAF loaded Goldtop should have double blacks or aged Nickel, anything else is just silly

In my humble opinion the only colour that looks bad is all-black pickups.

Also the pickup surrounds and scratchplate shouldn't be black.

Nickel covers on a Goldtop is my fave (and what I have on both of mine!)
    Red ones are better.

NIckel covers FTW, but double white/cream can be good on a goldtop

    Agree with @revsorg

All black is horrible.  Zebras are fab and double creams are fab.

Zebras would be my first choice.  :)

  • The correct answer on a gold top is cream p90s but failing that so long as it's not black it's OK.

A long as the surrounds are cream then any of the normal black/cream bobbin combinations or nickel (or even chrome) covers is fine.

All white would definitely look wrong - like a cheap early-70s Japanese copy.

@breakstuff where did you get the pickup rings from? I bought some from axetec and they don't fit too well.

@underdog a got them from Allparts, though as it was a few years ago I'm not 100% sure which ones exactly.I've just measured mine and it looks like these ones

fit (same outer/inner dimensions and screw spacing) although unfortunately they are showing out of stock at the minute.

Thanks mate, I've got the set on and they look fine for the most part buy from playing position you can see were it doesn't sit flush with the top. The screw holes were about 1.5mm off

@4114Effects the answer is quite obviously zebra :D

  • I'm feeling the zebra today, I think they'll stay if I'm honest.

I don't think I'm a fan of the all black and the nickel plated is the original but I think I prefer the zebra's over them. Thanks for helping me out today everyone!

That one with the cream bobbins above is the best.
