What's Hot
axisusaxisus Frets: 28354
What ones do you like? I'm into 70s stuff at the moment and I particularly like live albums (if they are good!), so I'm looking to find some good 'uns.

Thoughts?

A classic for me is Rainbow on Stage, Also Deep Purple Made in Japan.

Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous: although there's some debate about how live it is

    Hendrix In The West

Mountain - Flowers Of Evil: the live side

    Frampton Comes Alive
    It's not a competition.

"Moonflower" by Santana and "Live & Dangerous" by Thin Lizzy (yeah, how live is this one but Lizzy could deliver live)?

Made In Japan mentioned in the first post, so…

David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture
    Neil Young - Live Rust
    Genesis - Seconds Out
    Status Quo - Live
    Queen - Live Killers
Eagles - Live (technically 1980, but it's all 70s material).

The two standout live rock albums for me are

Deep Purple - Made in Japan
UFO - Strangers In The Night

A couple of not so rock ones which are great too are:

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - 4 Way Street
George Harrison - Concert for Bangladesh.

And of course, the one which lets you be there even though you weren't:

    Woodstock

(IMHO, George should have been knighted for Bangladesh, which was Live Aid, but a decade earlier.)

  • Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band - 'Live 1975-1985'  (More of a compilation than a true concert album, but great all the same.)

Queen - Live at Wembley '86

Would Clapton 'Unplugged' count, or is that stretching the classic rock label a bit far?

Mahogany Rush Live - Frank Marino. No opportunity wasted to insert a guitar solo.

Tokyo Tapes - The Scorpions. Great album if you are okay with the vocals ( this is what happens when the drummer writes the lyrics).

They certainly could. I saw the original line up with Eric Bell and the line up with Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson.
Brian Robertson was one of a long line of guitar players I latched on to and went through a phase of trying to emulate.
    It's not a competition.

    That was a great show.

I think I bought that at the same time as Queen: Live Magic and I've loved them both since about 1986 or whenever it was I got them.

I miss big gatefold LP sleeves with all the photos.

Surprised not to see this here already, but it deserves to be:

Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East
