...and did D'addarios go up, or am I imagining they were cheaper?
Red ones are better.

  • Strings Direct have really good service IME.  Amazon usually quickest and cheapest with latest dispatches if you're in a rush.  Thomann can sometimes work out cheapest if you buy in enough bulk to get free shipping, but I've not done that in a while.

Another +1 for Strings Direct - great service, and sell more than strings too

5 sets of Gibson Brite Wires plus 2 spare 1st and 2nd from Amazon £16.99. The listing on the UK site is in French for some strange reason.

I 've given up on Slinkys, after using them for many years I do believe they now suck.

No idea if the first time buyer code Strings Direct gave us would still work. I think it was SD10 although it's been a while.

Wherever is cheapest, I usually buy the 10 packs, and sometimes they're on offer at certain places.

    Check Amazon and eBay.

I use a variety of sites, StringsDirect (just ordered some strings off there 5 minutes ago actually) are really good, usually if I order before 3-4pm they will arrive the very next day. I'm hoping my order at 4:12pm will just about sneak in and I'll get them tomorrow!

Been a customer for about 10 years now and never ever had any issues.

I like how they've introduced the 5 set packs for Ernie Balls (and some D'addarios) now, I used to go in 10's but they're becoming less popular and more expensive, the 5 set ones are a bit more affordable.

Other sites I use are Stringbusters, GAK, Strings and Things and GuitarBitz are all very good too, but check prices and compare regularly, they change in line with inflation and stuff.

I refuse to shop on Amazon on principle.

A mixture of Thomann, Strings Direct and Amazon depending on urgency/what else I need. I hate Amazon, but to remember at 10pm that you need some strings the next day, to do three taps on your phone and they're on the way is pretty handy.
I always have to give props to SD, though. I've used them for eternity.

I got annoyed at SD putting a thing on their website that wanted you to confirm you were sure whenever you clicked to leave their site.

Poor tactic that I expect more from porn site pop-ups.

Why would you ever want to leave a porn site?

Yeah, I have that problem with porn sites, too many pop-ups.

Each time I buy, prices seem to change. I do an internet search inc EBay and look for the best UK deals inc postage. I buy 10 sets of D'Addario's EXL120 009-042's at a time.  I always check authenticity and have never been sold fakes...ebay promise guarantee and paypal protects me anyway on Ebay purchases.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

Strings direct are worth it purely for the customer service, gone above and beyond a few times for me.

Used to pop into strings direct/holiday music quite a lot, as its a half hour on a good day down the Southend Arterial.

    They've always seemed cool.

Andertons do the buy 3 get a 4th free though, so sometimes when I'm in there I'll go for that, - a few quid using me loyalty points lol.

Now though its PMT for one offs as I drive straight past the 'East London' thats definitely not even near East London store, quite often.

Used to use Dv247 as again I would pass it a few times a week, but they never kept hybrid slinkys out, and usually had to go hunt in the back for them for half hour before coming back and saying they got none.

In a pinch I'll use whsmiths, they do multibags of rubber bands.
The only easy day, was yesterday...

  • Didn't get my strings in time yesterday unfortunately, I did hope SD would have tried to go the extra mile to sneak in my order. Had to run into a guitar shop and get pack en route to the show!

Quite possibly Royal Mail at fault.  First class isn't guaranteed next day, I know somthing that was definitely posted Friday didn't get to me yesterday.  SD can only do so much

  • Thing is I don't think the order was dispatched as I usually get the notification email, sometimes I don't get one and it still turns up the next day. So yes possibly a Royal Mail delay if I get it on Tuesday then it must have been sent out on Friday.
