If you're thinking Bolt-On then just go to G&L - No hyper-inflated bullshit marketing guff, just workhorse instruments with deep, glassy finishes and high performance necks.

*Sigh* makes me miss my Invader, but I want one of these now (always liked Jazzmaster Pickups).

They can be, but I came to Guitar from Bass and don't really notice anything until it's 9lbs+

I know they have Empress Models at 6lbs to 7lbs, but Swamp Ash is King for me (favourite Tonewood)

Wisdom for you. The bridge/trem setup is half the point of a JM.

This G&L is just a wonky strat with JM pickups.

Agreed about the bridge, but a JM style with a tauter feel is something I'd probably quite like. I love the offset look but the feel isn't right for me, but I've never really spent much time on one with a good aftermarket bridge, which would probably help me bond a bit better with one. Guitars are easier to play when you're not constantly moving a string along a saddle.

Yes, which is why the original JM bridge is so good - the bridge rocks back and forth instead of needing the strings to slide over it.
