I'm not sure it qualifies, but there's lots of guitar on Tubular Bells 2. Fantastic album for my money.

Any of Jeff Beck's instrumental albums (bit of a cop out and non specific, but true).

And I've recently discovered Noveller (Sarah Lipstate) - who creates entire albums wih just guitar. And Mike Oldfield's Guitars - even the 'drums' are sampled percussive beats on an acoustic.

  • I'm not sure I own many or what would qualify.

But +1 on the Campilongo and Ranglin albums.

Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue a perpetual favourite I guess ( and a favourite of people like SRV and BB King).

Freddie King's Lets Hideaway and Danceaway which begat us Clapton, Stan Webb et al ( for better or worse) still holds up.

I've got bunches of surf stuff but on compilations or just listen on streaming. Dick Dale obvs but I'd highly recommend Los Straitjackets and the Bambi Molesters for modern takes on the genre.

And suprised we haven't got Play by Brad Paisley as yet, although  it's not 100% instrumental.

Over The Top and Tilt, by Cozy Powell are two great albums.

Here's Cozy (With Jack Bruce playing an Aria Pro II SB1000).

  • P&W, Blow by Blow and The Extremist for me off the top of my head.

I nearly chose Ah Via Musicom apart from it's got loads of singing on it :)

Haha same! Which made me think, okay, Venus Isle then, soon realising that’s got loads of singing on it too. Total dickhead moment!

P&W, Flying in a Blue Dream and Extremist, a lot of Beck, I'd also add Southern Steel by Steve Morse, and Resolution by Andy Timmons.

  • Yeah, the Ranglin one is just great period, bass and drums are awesome.
Also forgot about the Extremist, good album.
Al do Meola's Elegant Gypsy is still pretty epic, the solo on the first track is so fiery.

Obscure but underrated: Neil Schon - Electric World.
