How can this Les Paul be 'All Original'

peteripeteri Frets: 1283

This came up the other day - a 1975 Les Paul Custom on the instagram feed of a well known dealer.

How can this be described as all original - when there's no serial number or stamp?

Have I missed something?

  • There is a serial number.  It's just very, very faint.  I can make out the "Made in the U.S.A." part and looks like the last three numbers are "135"?  Could be "138" also.  Bit of a bastard to make out!

I am currently working on a 73 with similarly faint stamps and had similar concerns to you.... but I can't find any evidence if a refin.

given the obviousness of the neck lams on the white one I seriously doubt it's a re-fin

Looks fine to me. Plenty of them are very faint like that, especially with the thicker solid colour finishes like white.

    Ah, from Richard Henry Guitars.

His Instagram feed is utter porn. Filth.

When I'm in the market for a Les Paul Custom, I have a curious desire to scrape a few grand together and go up to see him, play everything he has that I can afford, and buy the best.

I can just make out the 'made in the USA' part - can't read the serial number on my monitor but can tell it is there - as per comments above - with a thicker finish it is common for the serial number and made in the USA tag to be feint - I've struggled to read many in the past but still know they are kosher - don't see any issues on that one based on info supplied

He had a custom I liked the look of (but can't afford :( )

It didn't sell at £2150, so he's relisted a few days later at £2295.  Huh?

Buy it now before it goes up again!

    :)

I sometimes think that's the genuine 'logic' they apply to this. As apparently do some buyers, surprisingly.

I wish.  Birth year guitar.  I'd love it, but no funds, sadly.    And I don't fancy using ebay to try and raise funds either.  open_mouth

Isn't this where slackers and ne'er do wells start a crowdfunding campaign?
