WTB something from 1972..

It was a fine vintage, in no small part because that's when I was born, and I think I deserve a birthday present :-)
Looking for electrics/semis only and not crazy expensive i.e. less than or around a grand (it's a relative term I know) and no lower limit, happy with something 'interesting' !
Am a fan of Japanese brands and hopeful there's something knocking around out there.
So, whatcha got??

We're living in the future, although there's less rocket packs than I expected.

Japanese stuff sounds like a good call though. Tokai breezy sound, etc Have you tried Whitstable guitars? (No connection).

In my opinion, this is a job for @HarrySeven. He (literally) has a shedload of old, "interesting" Japanese guitars. Some of them have even been - as the OP puts it - knocked around.

Not a great year for less than a grand guitars - as far as I'm aware. Japan not yet quite up to standard, Fender and Gibson standards patchy. Lots of bolt on neck semi hollows.

The Tele deluxe would be my pick, but more like 2k. 

My birth year too!

If nothing interesting turns up you could always buy a 72 tele reissue and upgrade the pickups. 

This is in the states, unfortunately.

@streethawk yup, that's about right, the Japanese stuff I'm interested in seems to be about five years later, I may have to broaden my search a little, this thread is a last ditch effort!

There are probably loads of interesting Japanese guitars from that period but I'd guess it's quite hard to pin them down to a specific year, the info online about serial numbers etc is fairly limited and it's pretty difficult to even tell one model from another.

And I may be wrong here, but my impression would be that the really good MIJ stuff came along a bit later, late '70s, early '80s and beyond (ah, I see @streethawk has already said something similar).

It's a tough one.

I've been to Japan- does that count?
My neck- I guess I'm a through construction.

There's a bloke on Facebook selling a 73 Yamaha SG30 for £500 ish. I know it's not a 72 but it ticks every other box !  I can send you a link if you want ?
