Fret buzz - best way to fit a loose nut...

What's Hot
So the G was snapping on my Taylor 130 acoustic, thanks to a dodgy nut. I've * very * carefully smoothed it using fine paper and now it doesn't snap, stays in tune and buzzes like and angry bee when I hit the open string.

I don't really want to change the nut as it's a very nice, and not cheap, graphite upgrade. So my initial thought is to repeat a trick I was shown many years ago and mix a tiny drop of super glue with graphite powder and carefully build the nut back up then sand to taste.

At this point, when I'm about to FUBAR an otherwise nice guitar, thoughts and opinions are welcome...

That's the trick many use and it works pretty well... but you need to slot with a nut file if you don't want to repeat the error.

I don't think you can mix the powder with glue, it'll set too fast. You have pile up some dust in the slot and drop some superglue in there.

  • Brilliant! Thanks for the pointers - I'll give it a go this weekend.
