Hi

Can anyone suggest a good transparent overdrive that would match well with my 335 and Marshall 1974x?

Thanks

Bugger transparent... you want a treble booster type drive with a 1974x. Beano Boost for example.
Otherwise the correct answer has already been given: Tim/Timmy

Something with a relatively flat EQ, the 335 is already pretty mids heavy so something to balance well with that.

How come you suggest a treble booster instead?

Tim/Timmy is a good shout. For lower gain I use a J Rocket Blue Note with my ES-335. It's so transparent I have trouble seeing it on my board ;)

Bluesbreaker - Treble Booster - 335 is the trifecta of late 60's/70's blues rock, *if* your amp is turned up loud enough to be slightly crunchy on its own.

As above... its a combination that just works. I also found an attenuator invaluable (a Dr Z Brake Lite lives permanently in the back of mine). Attenuator, treble booster and 1974x gave me all the drive I needed.

I depends how much overdrive you want.  I agree that a decent treble booster into a steaming amp gives a great tone, but it's not remotely transparent even set at low gain.

For really low gain overdrive, a Klon(e), for something low to mid I'd recommend the Timmy and for mid with a bit more colour something like the Sweet Honey OD.  Anything with more gain that that I think transparency is out of the window.

Thanks for the input. The Throbak Strange Master seems like a good option for treble boost

Agree with the Treble booster totally.

A beano boost and that amp with that type of guitar is brilliant.

    OD's with flat EQ:
    Timmy
    Magnetic Effects Sandare
    Xotic RC

Not as flat, but flatter than TS style pedals:
    Xotic AC
Bluesbreaker clone/variant, e.g. Snouse Black Box, VFE Blues King.

I'm selling a Danelectro Timmy clone
