I got my first USA PRS earlier this year - and love it. I've recently begun to hanker after a PRS hollowbody. Any thoughts on them? I like the idea of being able to go from electric to 'acoustic'(ish) sounds on one guitar. And, well, I always need to want some piece of gear, eh?

Guitar porn welcome.

Used to have one. Found it a bit bass-heavy sonically (I had 57/08s in mine). The piezo, when blended in, mitigated a bit of that of course - I found the piezo more useful for tone sculpting than for pure acoustic sounds, it sounded a little plasticky for the latter (as they often do). Ultimately I sold it on in favour of a Knaggs Sheyenne as it just wasn't getting the play it deserved and I preferred the electric sound of the Knaggs... but it was a nice looking and solid-playing guitar either way.

    play mine everyday

the piezo is something I feel you might not necessarily have on a want list - but once played you find them useful, especially on the blend option - doesn't sound like a pre war Martin, more like a good electro acoustic - better having a separate amp for the piezo to get the best out of it - overall more Larry Carlton than Joe Bonamassa - more Steely Dan then Metallica - can work with overdrive but I feel works better when less is more

Not a guitar for everyone but I like it

  • I've played a few and they have all been superb (I am currently pondering letting my '89 Custom that I've had since '91 go with a view to buying one).
Still not sure whether I'd use the piezo all that much as one of the ones I tried a while ago was purely electric and remains the one that has been prodding my GAS button the most.
I liked the sounds, the feel and especially the light weight of all of them.
