hi FX people, had a shufty and this seems to be one noticably absent from the clone list.

basically i want the cheapest smallest format version of the small clone, to de-house and install into a homemade super low-fi synth build (a couple of basic oscillators and a variety of classic early filters).

the small clone has the tone i want, neither 60s/70s mellow or late 80s/90s complex. basically post punk stark and dark.

behringer has some boss chorus clones, joyo another i think, but no one seems to be touching the EH stuff. i made the 18v clone theory. great pedal but it was a pita big build. for this i want quick and cheap as poss. it's a pita big project anyway, but will sound superneato evil i hope.

has anyone spotted one i have missed? maybe one of the donners or mooers?

if i can find a dirt cheap nano that may do, if it is an identical clone. but since i only want the board, chinese tat clones seem best option, if they exist.

thank you for your advices.

You can move it yourself by clicking on the cog and editing the thread to FX  :)

  • I don't think there are (m)any cheap clones - the original is pretty cheap anyway.

Be wary of the Neo/Nano version that EHX do. One of them is supposedly quite good (the Neo Clone, I think) whereas people didn't rate the other one. Google will tell you for sure.

thanks @UnclePsychosis ;; i had heard rumblings that the nano is a cheap approximation, not a straight 1-1 copy, so that's another reason i am resiting that option for a while at least, in pursuit of a small clone of a... small clone.

  • I thought the neo versions were the shit ones and the nano was fine?

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I had the Neo Clone (rate knob, depth toggle), it was pretty good approximation of the Small Clone I thought. The Nano clone (rate knob only) was reportedly a different circuit and is generally unloved.

Someone's selling a Neo Clone here: http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/116699/ - seems ideal for what you want.

Yeah. One doesn't have the switch. You want the one which has the same knob and switch setup as the full-sized version. (I have the darn thing and I can't remember which is which either, lol, I suspect it's the neo too- just checked the EHX website and the Neo is indeed the good one.)

I think that's true for some of their other pedals but EHX helpfully confused things by using the opposite policy for the chorus. :D As I said above, I have the darn thing and I wasn't 100% sure until I checked- surely that means it's confusingly-named?!?!
