I'm actually thinking of the Gartone as a budget alternative.  Which shows how utterly bonkers all this can get

Flynn are great too. And Gartone are great. What more can you do with a 5e3 circuit apart from changing valves, transformer and speaker. Just make sure it's a well made one

  Change out the coupling caps to reduce the flubbiness of the bass (changes the character of the amp), which is what most folks seem to do.

  Change from fixed bias to cathode bias, which alters the character of the amp - allegedly (more volume and punch, less compressed) - like having two different amps.

  Add in a solid state rectifier on a switch option.

  Change the tone cap on the tone pot.

  Add a master volume.

  and there's more.........

I like the Tungston amps crema wheat circuit, that improves the tone stack and volume control interaction

I think you mean the other way around


I still think the 5E3 is the third best Deluxe circuit, not sure why people would ever choose one over a 5A3 or 5C3. The 5E3 is a little sterile in comparison with the earlier circuits. Although, they do have their uses.
