WTB Gibson Les Paul - possibly Tokai. £900ish to spend.

As per the title, I'm looking to buy a Les Paul, ideally Gibson but would certainly consider a Japanese alternative. £900ish to spend but could go a little higher for something special - Anyone got anything interesting they're looking to sell?

First off, welcome to the fretboard.

600 should get you a decent quality Jap Tokai secondhand whilst in Gibson territory you are really only going to get yourself a studio or special for around 5-600 (not that either are bad guitars, I regularly gig a special but you may want/prefer the traditional lp burst look). If it’s the burst/goldtop you want I’d try to find an extra 3-400 (if possible) as you can easily find a classic, deluxe or traditional secondhand for between 900-1000 and it can then really be down to what spec suits you.

Hey, thanks very much for the welcome and the advice. I've upped my price range accordingly

Welcome. The middle ground might be an Orville by Gibson if you can find one.

I see a lot of optimistic asking prices for them - but whether they sell for that who knows.

My opinion is that something like an ObG 57 Goldtop reissue (like mine) with nitro, proper Gibson pickups and electronics and fret nibs should top out at around £750. However I see them advertised for more...which is a bit daft as over £900 and you are looking at USA Gibson’s.
