The jet black stuff is Gabon ebony.
.... but remember not all Gabon ebony is jet black... but if you want jet black you start looking at that one first, or any other type of ebony and a pot of fiebings

coco is a nice wood, again i dont think its colour suits everything and its is one a lot of people seem to be allergic too.. this is usually only a reaction to the dust when working, so more an issue for the builder than the player.

Not read all the comments but I have had a LP Custom with ebony board and have a strat with an ebony board (Warmoth). I like the feel of ebony and with a bigger neck (ie more wood) it helps to balance the effect the extra wood has on the tone. However you also need to take into account the frets. You will feel the wood more with lower frets so ebony with superjumbo frets might have little impact on the feel.

My strat has 6105 frets and I can feel the smoothness of the ebony, I love it.
