Love Chas playing bass on this the best version of Country boy.

But for serious bass playing In early 70's Jerry Scheff is hard to beat. Just watch his left hand fly around the neck.

Not sure I have a favourite bass player but I love the fade out of Mr Big by Free - last 1 min or so, longer on live versions, where Andy Fraser just drives along over a simply grove - awesome and still a kid when he did it

Then the big  guy with Stevie Wonder on I wish

Then for Disco it can only be Bernard Edwards

Mark White from the Spindoctors, I remember going to see them live many years ago, keen to see the guitar side of things, and it was the bass playing that wowed me at the show.

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned but I would ad the bass player from Sade Paul Denman.

    edit: and John Taylor.

Andy Fraser for me too. Great tone and superb timing, I love where he dragged behind the beat sometimes. Those little trademark stuttering runs up the fretboard too, amazing. He was no mean songwriter either.

Norman Watt Roy is a close second. Just listen to the bass on Rhythm Stick....wow.

Has anyone mentioned Stanley Clarke yet?

Struggle to single out individuals - it's all about the band. However having said that:

    Martyn P Casey
    Les Pattinson
    Mike Mills
    Lou Barlow
    Peter Hook
    Jerry Barnes
