If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

Yay! Frank Frazetta (first Molly Hatchet cover there) superb artist.

The other two pretty good as well, although not FF

  • i'm too young for vinyl, but i always thought this was a stunning idea. a sandpaper cover so you either have to keep the album separate from the rest of your collection, or it will gradually destroy your entire collection from within. very factory.

Just put it in one of those clear plastic sleeve protectors. Fixed.

actually the problem went deeper, in that the glass bits came off the sandpaper and ended up inside the sleeve (scratching the vinyl), so more ended up getting retured than kept.
but it's like the infamous new order 'blue monday' cut-out cover (one of the few vinyls i have. charity shop find bought solely for the cover as i don't even have a player).

in case you haven't heard that story, the legend is that everyone was so excited about the idea (anonymous black sleeve, band name in colour 'code' along side, cut-outs to imitate floppy discs of the time) that it went off to production without being priced. eventually they got the figures back and realised they were losing money on every one they sold.

the band were then placed in the surreal situation of suddenly wishing their new song would drop out of charts without a trace, from which point it went on to become the best selling 12" of all time. it's poetry really. that phrase 'snatching defeat from the jaws of victory' comes to mind.
but you have to admire the band for never giving up, no matter what. there's genuine heroism there. and such great work.

factory records were like the last scene from 'the italian job' spread out over an entire decade.
