So what is you favourite movie sound track - has to be an instrumental

My initial thought was Pink Panther Theme - love the sax sound on this

But as I'm typing this just heard 2001 Space Odyssey on the radio and forgot how good it is

Also like Summer of 42 by Michel Legrand

Ennio Morricone - Once Upon A Time In The West
    Vangelis - Blade Runner
    Tangerine Dream - Sorcerer

I would say that 2001 doesn't really count since most of it wasn't written for the film, although it's absolutely iconic - so much so that the opening from Also Sprach Zarathustra is now much more associated with the film than with the rest of the original piece.

    The Matrix is good

    Thomas Newman floats my boat.
Like many (all?) soundtrack composers he is deliberately manipulating my emotions.
    But that is his job!

That is exactly what Rachmaninoff and many other composers were doing.

Mine too, although the one I have on my phone is the Wall-E soundtrack. Wonderful stuff.
