Multitrack recording

right, I’ve acquired a 24 channel desk and a 16 channel soundcard. I don’t want to have a compressor on every channel in the software, I want to ideally use a hardware compressor/limiter. What’s the best way about going about recording a rock band all at once and controlling dynamics on the way in to the computer?

Couple of Behringer 1U rack Multi comps ?.....cheap as chips and give you 8 channels compression.
