OK Guys- I trust you are seated: the LP just made...wait for it...

    $45,000.00.

It was bought by Miles Nadal (google is your friend).

    I am gobsmacked.

A quick Google suggests he’s somewhat far from skint.

I wonder how much it’ll be worth in 2112?

  • When it comes to charity auctions things can sell for silly money. It’s not always because the item is worth that much, it’s usually because the very wealthy (and generous) bidder was going to donate that much anyway. To them it’s a bit of fun.

Can charitable donations be tax deductible as well ?

  • All bets are off if seriously wealthy people want something.

A very good and quite wealthy friend of mine had the nickname Pinky (nothing to do with music). Many years ago the personalised number plate P1 NKY came up for auction and he decided he wanted it. He was willing to pay quite a bit (many 10s of thousands, can't remember actual figures).

At some point in the auction he realised he was out of his depth and gave up. He later found out it had gone to David Gilmour for iirc £150k.

To be fair to my sadly now deceased friend, he wasn't really a personalised number plate kind of guy.  But his business, which had given him a good living for years, expanded quickly in a short time and suddenly he found himself not just comfortably off but quite rich.  It seemed to dull his naffness sensors for a while.  Porsche, interior designers, bottles of champagne in the pub etc.  It lasted a year or two and then he went back to being a normal down-to-earth guy who just happened to have more money in the bank than the average Joe.
