    My main amp is massive

Should I buy a Fractal instead of upgrading my pedalboard?

The answer to this question is always “yes”, and it’ll sort your amp problems too. Any questions just ask, had mine for almost a year and it’s the main reason my reply to this thread was so short!

    Washburn wi66?
    Washburn f10s
    katana50

    Out
    nothing

still on the lookout for a nice small bodied acoustic or electro..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

    Guitars:

    In then out -
Ibanez Artcore AS73 Semi, Squier ‘72 Thinline, Raygun Relic LP Jr. All bought for experimentation reasons and never intended to keep.
Gibson LP Special - great guitar but didn’t fix the things I don’t like about Gibson’s.

    In and kept -
Ibanez Talman shortscale bass, amazing value and more than adequate enough for my bass talent!
Suhr Alt T Pro - early days but a belting guitar.

    Out -
Not yet sold but I’ll off-load Baby Taylor Mahogany and USA Schecter PT.

Basically will see me exit the year with a mere 3 electrics.

    Amps:
Trusty Carr Sportman never at risk. Just been pissing about with small headphone type solutions in Boss GT001, Vox multi fx thingy, Blackstar Fly, Katana Mini. All sold as none quite hit the spot.

    Pedals:
Hhhmmm, not too bad a year, a few trems bought and sold to get to the Basic Audio Throbby, Skreddy Swirl replaced with Drybell Vibe Machine 2, also added a mission expression pedal. A few other bits and bobs such as power supply and cables etc etc.

That's my quietest year for a very, very long time.  And there's nothing in particular on my want list, although I do feel like buying "something", I just don't know what.  I missed a couple of interesting guitars on eBay by dithering, I've got out of the spending habit.

I've had a fairly quiet year...

    In:
    • Rickenbacker 4001 mapleglo (2010) - this came up cheap, and near mint!
    • Status Eclipse 5-string - a spare 5-string
    • Gibson SG Special (2006) - I always wanted an SG and this came up when I sold a bass
    • Slammer by Hamer Special - nothing special really, except that it's a surprisingly good guitar
    • Ovation Applause AO 128 acoustic - Ovation's budget range
    • Washburn KC-40V superstrat - it's got a whammy bar
    • Fender Strat MIM - bought to do up & sell, but I like it and I've just added a Roland GK-3 synth pickup
    • Zenta 70s bass - vintage bass in really good nick
    • MM Sterling Sub 5 - someone was selling it for ages and had no takers, so I had it
    • Moog Minitaur MIDI synth - well, it does that Taurus thing
    • Roland PK-5A MIDI pedals - to play the Minitaur
    • Roland JV-1010 MIDI synth - supplement the Minitaur with high/orchestral/vintage synth sounds
    • Roland GR-1 guitar synth - picked up off a junk table
    • Roland JV-35 - an OK keyboard to use as a MIDI controller
    • Trace Elliot 2103 (2x10 + 2x6)
    • Markbass LM Black Line 250
    • Roland Space Echo - cool, even emulates the tape speeding up/slowing down
    • EH Synth 9 - turns your bass into an Oberheim (and others)
    • EH Soul Food bass - a not too intrusive distortion
    • Boss SYB-5 Bass Synth - a few interesting sounds
    • Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive - one of those standard pedals
    • Boss SD-1 Overdrive - bought to try the TS mod on, but haven't got 'round to it yet
    • Boss AW-3 Auto-Wah - swapped for a Behringer noise gate
    • Joyo Vintage Overdrive - TS clone won in a raffle
    Project/restoration:
    • Doni Millennium Falcon Star Wars 5-string bass - body broken, begun work on replacement
    • Pete Longfellow aluminium Tele - one of Pete's early ones, needs a bit of work
    • Martin Sigma DM1S acoustic - Martin Korean production, got this in a job lot, neck might've been repaired
    • Shaftesbury Rickenbacker project restoration (was: missing bridge, blown pickup, no binding, no electrics)
    • Partscaster 1 - MIM Strat body, Warmoth neck, Irongear & Tonerider pickus
    • Partscaster 2 (in progress) - Warman body, Levinson Blade neck, SD SH2N/SH4 pickups, maybe a Fernades Sustainer...
    • Various parts for future projects - necks, pickups, bridges, machines, etc.

    Bought/sold:

    • Warwick RockBass 5-string
    • Epiphone 435i superstrat
    • CMI Rickenbacker copy - needed a bit of fettling to get working
    • Diamond (Aria) Rickenbacker copy - had great fun doing this one up!
    • Squier Jazz Bass - sold to Sham 69!
    • Cort X4 superstrat
    • Green Jazz fretless - Warman body, Status Graphite neck, EMG pickups, Badass II bridge
    • RSL (cheap Chinese) bass
    • Yamaha FG-180 - 70s red label Taiwan first run (under Japanese supervision)
    • Squier Precision - acquired with broken headstock, replaced neck, sold as a cheap banger (£50)

Yep - a fairly quiet year overall...

@Sassafras they're sealed back so have fast transients and a sharp bass roll off. Based on the littlepapercones which are an update on the original auratones which were widely used in studios as a mix reference tool. The drivers are roughly 5.5", boxes are 19mm thick sapele and they're around 175mm wide and deep

  • Best Buy was a Strymon Brigadier Delay. It ended my quest for an analog voiced delay without the noise and hiss. Just perfect, slap back to long ambient noodling. Very tweakable but simple to use and set.

In second place is a lovely Souldier strap.
