    Why should abbreviation be a shorter word?

    In order for a word to be abbreviated it presumably has to be long in the first place. It's equally valid for the word describing the process to reflect the word being abbreviated in its earlier state rather than its latter state.

    We don't want any premature abbreviation, do we?
