So I bought one of these the other week, mainly just to get my through a rehearsal and to have a backup whilst I was waiting for my JVM to get fixed.
I have to say, it's quite impressive. It does sound very amp-like, and I got some good tones going into a 60's Carlsbro PA head the other week. I also tried it into my friends hand-wired combo that he loaned me, and it sounded good there too.
It isn't *quite* the tone I go for. It sounds too rocky and not metal enough, making me think I should've gone for the HT Metal instead; although what the actual differences are isn't quite clear to me.
The ISF control is, frankly, pants. I quite liked it on the Artisan 30 I once tried, but for the pedal, it doesn't seem to really work that well. It either brings out the bass way too much, or it brings out the treble way too much. I pretty much just left it at noon all the time, and relied entirely on the EQ.
But it reacts like a valve amp and sounds the closest to an amp that I've ever heard any pedal do. It isn't quite on the level of the JVM, but in a pinch it will do the job. Although I reckon had I tried these 3 years ago, before all my amp swapping shenanigans, I would've been quite happy to stick with one.
Yes the wall-wart is annoying. The stacked knobs are a bit finnicky. ISF is crap. But all that really matters is the sound, and it does deliver.

I changed mine and the pedal becomes one of the best I have tried and removes a load of that wolfy bass sound. If you get the time stick a JJ 5751 in there and see if you like it.
If it was smaller and didn't need it's own power supply I would still have it as my main drive sound, it also sounds great for direct recording, I have used it straight into the PA a few time with good results.
I think I'll wind up ignoring them all and getting the amt stonehead I did try a ht pedal out in store years ago, and the switch broke within a few clicks. Probably bad luck - switches do wear out, though, which is why I'm so heavily into the visual sound stuff...

Vs switches are awesome - the old ones are the same as you'd find on, say, mxr pedals, but the new ones are unbelievable. I've abused the hell out of them after they emailed me to say, "do your best to break them".
Apparently rated to a million hits? No idea. But it's good enough you must have been dead unlucky, photek! I'd heard the very first runs had switch issues though.
Ultimately, I wish everyone used the boss switching. It's bulletproof!

I had a Blackstar Boost which started pouring out smokeone day and blew the power supply when it was about 14 months old. Blackstar collected it replaced the burnt board and returned it with a new PSU within four days.
