Bright on Netflix

What's Hot
Watched it last night.

Its been panned by the critics but I really enjoyed it.
Loads of scope for a series/sequels.

Anyone else seen seen it yet?

  • I haven't seen it yet but was a bit reluctant to be honets. Smith is playing the same in every movie- some love it, some don't.  I've heard it's "different" so it can be a good thing. Anyway- if you recommend I may give it a go on one of those lazy Xmas afternoons  ;-)

  • I’ve noticed it being advertised but didn’t notice it was direct to Netflix.
Looks like a MrsTheWeary type film so am likely to watch it at some point.

  • Does it have references to Scientology?

Will Smith denies he's a Scientologist, but he has donated money to them, and his film After Earth has Scientology references and themes.

  • Just watched it. Absolutely fucking lifting, as bad as Battlefield Earth but without the unintentional comedy.

  • I figured the "normal humans" in the film = non-believers and the non-humans are Scientologists.

I just read the synopsis but it seems the end scene could also be seen as Will Smith denying to be a Scientologist, to fit in with the crowd, but he actually secretly is.

I tried and lasted about ten minutes until his wife asked him to kill a fairy that was flying around the kitchen. As soon as he uttered the immortal line "I ain't killin' no fuckin' fairy", I soon realised that the script and the plot were not going to reach out to me in any meaningful way.

I don't mind bad language when it's used to accentuate emotion but when it's just gratuitous, it's a distraction.

Just finished 'Timeless' which was ok. Also just finished 'The Punisher' which was stupendous.

Saw the trailer and I plan to watch it. I'd have preferred it without Smith in it, I don't mind him but he only does one thing in this sort of film and we've seen it a million times now.

I don't quite get how they make their money from this compared to cinema/DVD release?

It's most likely funded by Scientology in some way, so it doesn't really matter if they make their money back or not as they have so much.

I quite liked it - it's no blockbuster but it certainly has more than enough detail in the general setting to support a series (doubtless minus Will Smith)
    Red ones are better.

  • What did the Weary family do Xmas eve 2017? We watched Bright.
Bright as in rhymes with bag of shite.

I spotted at least one MIB in joke, don’t know if there were any Alien Nation ones - should have been. Sequel agreed already apparently.

    Awful.

  • I knew nothing about it until I read this thread. It was awful.
Bright? Should've been called Shite instead.

I didn’t like the orc character, apart from 1 scene he was unlikable, weak, and tedious.

  • Shockingly bad, couldn't wait for it to end.

I think they have created a good fictional world with lots of possibilities but the story wasn’t that good.  Plus I really dislike that orc....wish he could talk half as much.
