If you have an Amazon echo, and say "play Christmas Jazz", there seems to be an near-infinite amount of pleasant festive music, I'm sure other styles have as much to offer, I was having a laugh initially to have a Nigella vibe for Christmas lunch.

I have 2 CDs of Carribean Christmas tunes, for example.

Why some places just play the same 10 tunes over and over again baffles me, only 2 or 3 are actually any good in the first place

Absolutely... or should that be Abbasolutely?  ABBA's songs are intelligently crafted and musically unique.  I'd much sooner be carpet-bombed with them at Christmas than the tired old predictable cack we are tortured with every year.

Seriously - are they still going to be playing "(So here it is) Merry Christmas" by Slade when we're all in flying cars and Mars has been colonised ?

For New Year, I expect there'll be a Later Hootenanny thing with every artiste "feat." Jools Holland widdling around on the piano in a way that doesn't fit in with the music at all.

...and announcing the acts with phrases like "..the wonderful <act name>" said in a way that always makes me think that he's tired of it and doesn't really care about any of it anymore.  I don't know if it's just his personality but he always comes across as being just a bit bored with everything.

I hate Slade with a passion.  Apart from Merry Christmas Everybody  I firmly believe my present day tinnitus can be traced directly back to a concert in Sheffield circa 1972.  The NME should have introduced an annual award for "Best example of a band making up for lack of ability with volume."  Slade would have lifted it every time.

Slade were all right. So tight you couldn't fit a fine weight Rizla between them. You don't have to like their songs but don't tell me they weren't a good band.
