That's absolutely true, but we only need helicopter carriers for that, not full-size aircraft carriers with strike aircraft.

While it is true that until we get the planes, these will indeed just be oversized, overpriced helicopter carriers... that's missing the point .

Rather than debate further when I feel we have made our points, can we just sit back and think how wonderful a world we would live in if everyone built all their warships thinking "this is great, the next time there is a disaster we will save thousands of lives..."

No offense to the Royal Navy, who DO save thousands of lives after natural disasters all the time, but a bit of offense definitely meant to every politician who dreams of having their names next to Churchill's in the history books (cough Blair cough).
