In my first band the other guitarist has started because he won a guitar ( a strat I think, wasn’t what he actually used in the band) off a kid’s TV show. IIRC given away by Simple Minds.

I am getting old but can remember No73.  Sandi Toksvig was a presenter and the now Oscar winning and Cannes Jury prize winning director Andrea Arnold was also a presenter.

Number 73 might have been a kids programme but they had some proper adult bands on.  Eg one of my all time favourite guitarists, one of my all time favourite bands, Bill Carter and the Screaming Blue Messiahs now this, is how you play a telecaster..

Yep, that was the name they started out with, then they were going to use the name The Blues Messiahs but considering they're not really blues... the name they chose suits them completely IMO.

A lot of people I've spoken to just didn't "get" them, despite David Bowie taking up the cause, I think he said they were his favourite band at one point.

For my money Chris Thompson and Kenny Harris are one of the all time great British rhythm sections, they had to be good, Carter would invariably break strings (13's BTW) often the E and B  together, and have to swap guitars halfway through a song.  There's some great  stuff on Youtube including a great Whistle Test performance.  But I don't know why i'm bigging them up now, no-one listened to me back in the 80's I doubt they'll start now...
