I made the foolish mistake of looking at a couple of youtube demos I'd not previously seen and they washed away the last bit of willpower residue

I have knocked a few pedals off my wishlist by way of compensation though.

It's not really idea for boards unless you use an A/B input splitter. You might wanna check out the EF Fugue State!
