My brother in law has one of these. from 1963 and in lovely condition. He doesn't play guitar and was given it. I have a mint new old stock Selmer strap from the 1960s, identical to John Lennon's, which came from a house clearance. I have not yet been able to persuade him that he ought to give me his Epiphone to go with my strap. One day....
Easy, if he doesn't play guitar you can do a Gumtree relic on a new one and swap it out when you next visit.  :)

I think that the best guitar to learn on is the one that you want to play most. Even if some say there are "better" choices we usually want to learn because of some hero or other and the guitar's look is a big part of that. Given this, I'd go for the Casino as it's clearly something she likes and wants.

I also think that there's not much else like a Casino. The neck join gives a nice, compact feel and the hollow body means that there's a bit more volume than a typical solid/semi-solid for noodling about on without needing to plug in. I'll even go against received wisdom and say that the newer, Chinese models sound a lot better that the supposedly superior Peerless-made, Korean ones with the dreadful, dark, over-wound pickups.

Oh, and they're super lightweight too, which makes them relatively easy to schlep about to lessons, friend's houses etc.

Such versatile guitars, not just for bright beatles-esque poppy stuff

I have a really cheap 98 Korean Dot and a newish GCJr Casino, they are quite different guitars, not just the p90 vs humbucker thing. Casino is fully hollow so is a lot lighter and feeds back beautifully (or horribly depending on your POV).

Definitely different enough to warrant having both
