    I’ve seen both... so what “is” the correct way?

    Here's one a customer of mine did. I think he did a decent job of his Les Paul Studio :)

    i prefer uniform depth..


    nothing to do wiith tradition or being able to see the maple cap.    I just wouldn't want to waste  an extra tall strip of binding just for that section ;)

    Tbh, the maple cap is thinner than a standard and even a 6mm depth in the horn will hide it!...

    as for Waste, it being a first attempt for me I reckon a lot of Waste is gonna happen regardless... 

    If I go deeper in the horn I can do the rebate on the big milling machine really easily... hmmmmm what to do!...

    Makes sense to go with the tall binding then.   There is nothing wrong with it
