The day has come! I’m selling (or at least contemplating selling) my 1974 lp standard.

It’s previous owner was Johnny B Moore who is a bit of a legend of the Chigago blues scene.

It has seen 40 years of hard gigging. Johnny played for a number of high profile blues acts including Willie Dixon and Koko Taylor.

It has no headstock repair or nasty mods. Standards of this era had the ‘deluxe’ decal but were factory routed for humbuckers as a special order. This is one of those. The humbuckers are the orihinal patent number engraved ones. Original harness was a bit shot so it has a new high quality harness and toggle switch fitted, originals in the case. Tuners are period correct klusons, originals in the case as they’re very knackered!

it has had a quality refret and plays excellently.

Hard to price as it’s truly a one off and I don’t think that taking the price of a mint one and deducting for the wear is applicable as it’s a wonderful instrument with it’s own history.

£1850 is fair to start with I think.

Looks awesome! Being of 1974 vintage myself I've always fancied a guitar from the same year and this is as nice as I remember seeing!

Disclaimer - I think it’s late ‘74 but could be early ‘75. Not much difference unless you’re interested in it as a YOB guitar I suppose!

  • You can tell it's a player. No one would put that level of wear into it if it wasn't a good guitar.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

If it's a '75 then it IS my birth year guitar... I may have to sell my daughter to the primark factory

Partly because of the taxman but mainly due to the fact I play Fenders predominantly and seeing this sat in it’s case week after week seems wrong after such a heavy gigging past.
