Don't tell LesbianWithAGun... I've just videoed the solo from "English Country Garden".

It's an amazing solo, one of the best in their canon... it is also a spectacular pain in the arse to get right. This took me so many takes, and it's still sloppy. That really fast open-string lick at the end is damn near impossible. Anyone doubting Justin Hawkins's lead guitar credentials needs to try and learn this, and see how they feel afterwards.

    You've got fingers like spider legs!

    I always find it odd to watch Bucket play on his videos, as visually it looks like he only uses two long fingers and they look very "stiff" - but they can't be as he's moving freely and easy between the frets, it's just a visual thing I think.

    I'm curious @Bucket what guitar is that ?

    Why don't you ever use your little finger?
    The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

    @meltedbuzzbox Come on, I used it for two notes in that solo! lol I have such weird spidery fingers that I often find using the little finger can make me feel more cramped, for want of a better phrase, especially high up the neck - I tend to use it a lot more in my rhythm playing, but I don't video so much of that.

    @darcym It's a Gibson Flying V, a Faded model from 2009 but modified with a pair of @TheGuitarWeasel 's excellent Winterizer Firebird-style pickups. I don't use it as much as I should but I love it.

    Great band...I still love the solos in IBIATCL.
    I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

    Holding My Own has great solos,

    To be fair, lots of their songs have a great solo

    would love to hear it but can't make it play :(
    "Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
    Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

    Great stuff @Bucket sounded mint, wish I could play that fast!! I learnt Dans solo from IBIATCL and that took a while. Still struggling with Justins outro solo on that.

    Anyone doubting Justins chops or indeed Dans rhythm playing is clearly deaf, or just being deliberately provocative (or stupid). It might not be your thing, but you can't call their abilities. PTL is a superb rock album, the others are great too but more patchy. The solo in One Way Ticket winds me up cos the song and riff is amazing.

    My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

    Great Premier Guitar interview with Justin and Dan from last month;

    Great playing @Bucket ;

    LOVED the Darkness. Must have seen them about 20 times, back in the day.

    Now watching Dan’s gear on FleaBay and wondering whether it’s be a lame fanman thing to put a bid in or actually quite cool.

    Gonna sit down and play IBIATCL while I ponder it :)

    Yes... exactly what occurred to me listening to Bucket playing the lead. Seemed a bit Queen-ish (the lead... not @Bucket !!!)

    Nice one Connor and not a particularly easy one to play.

    Well-played and there's more to their music than people realise

    Why don't you ever use your little finger?
    Michael Schenker rarely uses his little finger and at 63 he's still the business.

    Nice playing as always @Bucket.
