Just slipped over

What's Hot
Went out for a nice walk by the river and just slipped right by the car.

Heard an almighty crack on the way down from my ankle, and I can't seem to move it - hoping it's a bad sprain, but the ambulance crew will probably help more. For now, I'm laying in mud, cold and sad.

Bleh!

Top tip:  don't do what I did when I fell down some steps running for a train, heard the crack, saw the foot at an angle which experience suggested "hmmm, that looks like a fracture... especially given the amount of immediate swelling"
But then decided based on fuck knows what reasoning, "I can't have been stupid enough to have broken my ankle."  [Despite the fact that I obviously was stupid enough to try and take six steps at a time].
And then, to compound stupid, I decided to walk on it to prove to myself that it wasn't broken.
    Reality won.
    Don't do that.

thank goodness you're not a medical professional who specialises in bones n stuff.

    oh wait, you are.

and sorry to hear about OP, but don't we live in a miraculous age where you can be out and about and still tell a bunch of strange people (erm I mean strangers, maybe) about it.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

Good point:   there's a stranger lying in the mud helpless and unable to move.  Get to him quick!

Seeking urgent medical attention for such matters is in direct contravention of TFB rules. You make multiple posts about it and receive the usual totally ill-informed, but well-intentioned, advice from the Fretboard Emergency Medical Team first.

For God’s sake get a grip, man.

Lets hope the ambulance is quicker than the one I called last week after crushing my foreman's foot under a car ramp.
Took them 20 minutes to arrive, then copious amounts of gas and air to get his boot off. He finally got wheeled out the door 30minutes later.

  • Well it's been over an hour, no ambulance, its getting cold and it just started to rain.

We needed to get a farmer to unlock the gate for access and he was none too pleased about it, suggesting I sit on the fence to wait.

    Bloody hell it's cold!

Is it not possible to get into the car where it's less wet?

    Bloody hell!

    Bloody bloody hell!

I fell over on the ice walking the dog a couple of years ago at the end of my street. I was a bit knocked about but nothing broken. Some cars drove past whilst I was lying there, beggared belief that nobody noticed me or stopped [ a few years ago I did stop and get out the car to help someone in similar circumstances].

Well, hope it’s working out in some way, that you aren’t reading this whilst developing hyperthermia.

Couldn't move - it's rather painful. Doc said she hopes it's a break, as if it's a sprain it's a bad one and will probably take longer to heal

Honestly mate, you made my day. :) was great to talk again - I'll be in touch soon :)

I'm safe and sound at the hospital now, and everyone has been lovely. It's warm and dry - I'm caked in mud though!

My ankle is still quite sore though. It's been x-rayed and I'm waiting for results now.

Feels odd to be back as a patient and not staff!

Ouch. It was bad enough when I broke my toe, but it's amazing how well they (i.e. both doctors and you own bones) can fix you after a break.

Hope it's good news, whatever that means in the short term!

    Another top tip:

If you take a fall from 5 meters up whilst climbing, obviously break your ankle and also smash your climbing helmet into 16 pieces by hitting a rock with your head...do not, under any circumstances, hobble back to your car and drive back from the peak district via snake pass, screaming in pain every time you have to press the clutch with your very broken ankle.

Not that anyone's ever done that.

    Except dick head me.

Yes - hope it's whichever is least bad; clean breaks seem to heal just fine.
