NGD - A different shade of blue...

Well well well... it’s been a long time since I had a new guitar in my life. I sold everything to fund the business. Right down to my pedalboard. I’ve had the Les Paul Junior of course, but it’s not the guitar I longed for tbh. 

So... I was taking part in the build challenge for the forum and some of you may have seen my progress with the sunburst Strat. That particular body has taken a back seat for now but only because I realised how much I wanted a lake placid blue Strat. Not being one to stay idle for too long I set to work on the body and ordered the last of the electrics. I still have to wire it but I decided today was to be the day that I assembled it, fine tuned the nut and got it singing.

Body - aged lake placid blue nitro alder body. Routed for SSS, weighing about 3lb 10oz unloaded.

Neck - C, 9.5” finished in my own vintage tint. Gotoh tuners, bone nut and vintage frets. The fretboard edges have been rolled and the frets are fully dressed (levelled, crowned and polished).

Electrics - oak grigsby switch, CTS 250k TVT pots, Rocket Pickups, switchcraft jack, treble bleed, 0.1 capacitor and vintage cloth wire.

Lake placid's a great colour, reminds of an oversized pond...yet tranquil....and peaceful...ambient tones n stuff..congrats

If you aged a 3 ply black pickguard then that would be my dream strat - I had my p bass in that combo and I miss it.

The Tort scratch plate might not have been the obvious choice on blue but it was the perfect choice.
That is a stunner!

Thanks fellas. I have to say, playing it again this morning it’s sublime. Low action, no buzz, no choke, smooth, intonated perfectly, stays in tune no problem, resonates better than any other Strat I’ve played and harmonically it’s simply divine. 

@Schnozz Rocket pickups by Willy Houston in the US. They’re hot wound single coils. Willy is ex Charvel and winds pickups for the guys in Warrant

There is no beating lake placid blue -it is possibly the most desirable fender colour. Looks great Scott, nice build mate.

I know the relic/aged thing divides us somewhat so I do appreciate the kind words. Funnily enough.. on that note, I had little intention of finishing it this way but all along I have done what feels right at the time and I just wanted to have some fun with it. Hopefully that comes across.

First class looking strat there!! Can't fault the way it's turned out. 

I will be looking at the SC relics page for some idea of prices.. ... Very very tempting.

Absolutely, in fact I'd go as far to say it's possibly only second to sonic blue x

That looks amazing, great work. Can you do them without your headstock logo and substitute a customers own ?
