Selling Guitar Safely?

What's the best way to receive the money when selling a guitar on something like Gumtree for example? (so personally handing it over rather than posting)

I've read on here about Paypal scams that are possible.

Is it generally common practice to ask for / give cash when it's around the 600 quid mark?

Cash in hand is always best. 
Just recently paid £1000 in cash for a guitar. If they want it and have the money then cash should be no problem.

Cash every time. Might be my age/background but it would never occur to me to expect otherwise, even up into the multiple thousands.

It's frustrating that in this day and age, there's still not an electronic way of doing this that everyone trusts, because cash is just an arse-ache.

Personally, I've used PayPal loads without issue, but I know some won't use it and have had issues.

It is a possibility but if it doesn't transfer instantly then it would be very awkward, he'd be wanting the guitar but I couldn't see the money in my bank account to be sure of getting it.

@Jack_ it is a shame; PayPal could be perfect but they seem to have a very exploitable policy that just wouldn't be worth the risk.
